LEARN self-management skills w/ heart failure Web Link

Heart failure is increasing due to a decline in mortality from cardiac conditions. Best practice guidelines recommend that clients develop skills in self management of their heart failure in order to maintain a compensated state of health. Self-management and self-management support are emerging trends in occupational therapy (Packer, 2011). Occupational therapists have the skills to develop and implement self-management programs to build the client's confidence through problem solving, decision making, action planning and behaviour change. The acronym LEARN will be explored as a learning tool and as the basis for an inter-professional education series for clients with heart failure.
