People with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) exhibit challenging behaviours such as agitation, wandering, and hallucinations. These behaviours, coupled with altered cognition, perception, and balance, can interfere with safe and meaningful occupational engagement, and be burdensome for caregivers. As the environment can influence behaviour, occupational therapy practitioners are uniquely poised to implement environment-based interventions in practice. This webinar will present evidence-based environmental interventions within occupational therapy’s scope intended to address problematic behaviours, perception, and falls in adults with AD. Case studies of people with varying severity of AD across practice settings will be used to illustrate practical applications of the research findings.
