One of the authors of the new AOTA Practice Guidelines for Individuals Living with Serious Mental Illness (2019) will summarize current evidence for best practice. The process of knowledge translation will support occupational therapy practitioners to match appropriate evidence to specific settings, develop population-specific intervention strategies, and collaborate with stakeholders to enact best practices.

The webinar will include a brief review of evidence-based practice (EBP) principles, then select evidence for intervention will be presented in the areas of ADL, IADL, social participation, leisure, rest and sleep; employment and education; physical health and wellness; early intervention; and stigma. Implications of evidence for occupational therapy practice, education, and research will be discussed.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe current evidence for mental health occupational therapy practice.

  2. Recognize evidence that is relevant to their specific occupational therapy practice population and setting.

  3. Identify at least 2 strategies for using current evidence to inform and support their mental health occupational therapy practice.
