While ergonomic strategies are commonly associated with facilitating work performance, they can be an effective tool in treating other common conditions from childhood through older adulthood and in improving participation in meaningful occupations via rehabilitative or wellness models.Ergonomic principles play an important role in effectively performing activities of daily living (ADL), instrumental activities of daily living (IADL), leisure pursuits, social participation, and educational performance by addressing body posture and position, environmental concerns, and other aspects of activity demands. Presenters will provide an overview of the use of ergonomics in occupational therapy as well as case stories to illustrate ergonomic strategies in treatment.
