Description

ON-DEMAND WEBINAR PURCHASE

Presented by: Shayne Berndt, Cherie Henderson and Carmen Lazorek

Occupational therapists (OTs), working in the fast-paced environment of adult acute care, are being asked to efficiently and effectively assess, care plan and prepare patients for discharge as quickly as possible. OTs must use their strengths in occupational assessment and risk mitigation to maximize their clinical time with complex patients and identify where efficiencies can be found in their practice to meet this demand.

This webinar will review the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Standard for Occupational Therapy in Adult Acute Care, the core clinical activities completed by OTs, the AHS Prioritization Tool emphasizing occupation at its core and the efficiencies that may be gleaned by OTs to meet the fast-paced nature of acute care. This webinar will also review the literature that supports this work and the importance of occupational therapy in the health care system for not only reducing length of stay, but reducing the risk of readmission.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the impact OTs have on patient length of stay and risk of readmission when they utilize their competencies in occupational assessment specifically within the core clinical activities of activities of daily living and functional cognition.
  2. Identify efficiencies in their practice through strategies like prioritization emphasizing occupation and the de-prioritization of lower value, non-occupation activities; adoption of collaborative practice models, and maximizing use of therapist assistants, among others.
