National Occupational Therapy Certification Examination (NOTCE):

September 11 or 12, 2024

Format:
  • Available to write at in-person testing centres or remotely by writing the exam online. In-person testing centres are located in Canada. The list of possible exam sites is provided during the registration process. If you select the online format, you will be able to choose your day and start time between 9am-1pm ET.  In-person exams typically start at 9am, however it could start later in the day. This will be confirmed closer to the exam day. You are not able to select the day of the exam if you select the in-person format.   
  • Two parts each having 100 questions and two hours to write (4 hours total). 

  • The total exam consists of approximately 40 case studies with 200 related multiple-choice questions.

  • The exam questions are selected according to the examination blueprint, see NOTCE Resource Manual 

  • Scoring is one (1) mark for a correct answer; zero (0) for incorrect answer.

  • The number of correct items needed to pass varies slightly for each exam sitting. In order to achieve a passing score of 290, the pass mark (near 70%) is based on criterion referencing. The results are not bell curved.

It is strongly recommended that you read the NOTCE In-Person Computer-Based Exam Manual , the NOTCE Online Exam Manual, and the  NOTCE Resource Manual  to learn about exam day expectations and the development of the exam, view the blueprint, and obtain a list of helpful resources to prepare for the exam. 

Exam Attempts

Exam candidates have three attempts to pass the NOTCE. After three attempts, candidates will no longer be eligible to write the NOTCE.

Language

The NOTCE is offered in either one of Canada's two official languages, English and French. Candidates are able to toggle between both languages during the exam. Plain language is used to reflect a national audience.

Testing Accommodations

Testing accommodations for the NOTCE are granted upon request. Supporting documentation will be required for every request.
