Executive function and occupational therapy: An evidence-based approach to the assessment and treatment of pediatric clients/patients with brain injuries (Part 1)

Approximately 150,000 Canadian children and youth sustain a traumatic brain injury each year (Brain Injury Society of Toronto, 2017). As their brain is not fully developed, it is importance to recognize some differences in how the brain injury affects executive function in children. Part 1 of this two-part webinar series will discuss the domains of executive function, as well as review the literature supporting the unique role occupational therapists have in assessing and treating executive function in children.
After taking part in this webinar, participants will:
- Understand the prevalence of pediatric brain injury and its impact on executive function skills.
- Identify at least 3 domains of executive functioning.
- Define the role of occupational therapy in evaluating and treating executive function difficulties in children.
