October is national occupational therapy month in Canada

Join CAOT in spreading the word….occupational therapy works!

There are many ways to get involved:

CAOT’s #31dayOTchallenge is back: this year with a prize for best meme and for participating!

We had over 10 million online impressions in 2015, and over 15 million in 2016…let’s keep growing and spreading the word about occupational therapy.

In October 2017, talk about occupational therapy to one person per day- either in person, online, by telephone, letter, or any way you can think of- during OT month and let us know on social media.

This is also a great opportunity to share resources, information and your personal reflections on occupational therapy. Tag your posts on Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms with #31dayOTchallenge to join the online discussion and promote occupational therapy across Canada!

Meme contest rules:

  1. During the month of October 2017, create a meme about occupational therapy. Tip: A simple online search will give you plenty of ideas about how to create memes. One of our personal favourites is Canva, a free online platform
  2.   Share your meme on Twitter or Facebook
  • Twitter: Tweet your meme with the hashtag (#) 31dayOTchallenge and tag us: @CAOT_ACE.
  • Facebook: Post your photo on the CAOT Facebook page with the hashtag (#)31dayOTchallenge.

Encourage your OT colleagues, students and others to participate in the challenge and the meme contest! CAOT’s #31dayOTchallenge meme contest is open to residents of Canada. Memes will be collected through Facebook and Twitter and the winner will be chosen by an unbiased panel and announced on November 10, 2017.

Participate to win:

During the month of October 2017, watch the CAOT Facebook page and Twitter profile for a post that prompts action to win. It will be as simple as liking/sharing/commenting so keep checking our Facebook page and Tiwtter feed for the post!

This contest will be open to participants globally. The winner will be chosen randomly and announced on November 10, 2017.

Prizes:

Best meme- $ 250 donation to a charity of your choice

Social media participation- $ 250 donation to a charity of your choice

CAOT Volunteer Program- Get Involved!

In time for occupational therapy month, CAOT is establishing a new volunteer program, the CAOT Volunteer Program – Get Involved!  We want to celebrate the over 300 occupational therapist members that volunteer their time and expertise to CAOT, to help advance our profession. You could be one of them! October will be a month of sharing volunteer stories and video. Going forward, volunteer opportunities will be showcased online so that members are informed and invited to Get Involved.

Participate in World OT Day activities through the WFOT

World Occupational Therapy day falls in OT month, so on October 27, 2016 let’s go global and help promote OT around the world!

The WFOT invites you to join them in promoting and celebrating World Occupational Therapy Day 2017. The theme for this year is “Inform Inspire Influence.”

Planned events include the annual OT Virtual Exchange (#OTVx17), an 8-hour interactive online conference with invited speakers including Handicap International who will discuss conflict and emergencies; World Health Organization (WHO) discussing the Assistive Technology/GATE Programme; Marleen van Doesburg-Kaijen and Claire Craig, two keynote speakers at the European Network of Occupational Therapy in Higher Education (ENOTHE) Annual Meeting in Zagreb, Croatia and our WFOT President, Marilyn Pattison.

The WFOT is also providing a range of resources that you can utilise to help promote the event. Many of these items have been designed exclusively for World Occupational Therapy Day 2017 and they can be downloaded from the WFOT Resource Centre.
