Evidence-Based Approaches: A Pediatric Perspective of the Occupation of Sleep (March 1, 2022)
Description

ON-DEMAND WEBINAR PURCHASE

Presented by: Jason Browning & Nicole Quint

Twenty to fourty percent of children experience sleep disorders, however many occupational therapists feel uncomfortable providing sleep interventions for children (Piller et al., 2020). Sleep interventions can improve sleep in those with and without medical diagnoses, with caregiver involvement highlighted as an essential component for effectiveness (Rogers et al., 2018).

This webinar focuses on the unique elements of the occupation of pediatric sleep, using occupation-centred models to incorporate evidence into telehealth and in-person intervention approaches that are family-friendly.  An overview of evidence-based approaches will be provided for infant/toddler, school-aged, and adolescent clients with focus on quality of sleep. This webinar will also cover the link between the benefits of improved sleep and performance in other daily occupations, including education, social, and self-care.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify occupational performance issues regarding sleep from a developmental standpoint using occupation-centred models.
  2. Examine sleep performance patterns across pediatric populations.
  3. Construct and apply evidence-based occupational therapy interventions related to sleep hygiene protocols and direct sleep interventions.
