Description

ON-DEMAND WEBINAR PURCHASE

Presented by: Michal Atkins & Ina Gomez

Occupational therapy for individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI) has developed greatly in the past decades.  Along with the new technological advances, occupational therapists have had to meet the new challenges of aging populations and increasing incidences of individuals with incomplete injuries.

This webinar will discuss the occupational therapy role with individuals with SCI. Some common terms will be defined and the International Standard for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (ISNCSCI) will be described. An overview will also be provided on assessments and interventions for different levels of injury.  The goal is that webinar participants will value the physical, psychosocial, and occupational challenges for the individual with SCI and the important contribution that occupational therapy provides to enhance health and quality of life.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the difference between complete and incomplete injuries according to the International Standard for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (ISNCSCI).
  2. Identify outcomes measures and evidence-based data for assessments and interventions.
  3. Recognize functional expectations of individuals with different level of injury and the compensatory strategies used for functional gains.
  4. List the roles and priorities for each intervention phase: acute, post-acute and outpatient.
