Description

ON-DEMAND WEBINAR PURCHASE

Presented by: Pam Stephenson, OTD, OTR/L, FAOTA and Paula Costello, OTD, OTR/L

Authentic assessment allows identification of a child’s strengths through a “developmentally appropriate, observation-based and collaborative” (Macy et al., 2019) process during everyday routines and activities in their own environment. Given the overlap with occupational therapy principles, authentic assessment is a tool that occupational therapists can use in pediatric practice settings to improve understanding of occupations and of occupational performance in the child’s natural context.

This webinar will explore authentic assessment strategies and tools and apply them to pediatric occupational therapy practice to evaluate occupational performance during natural routines and activities.  An overview of occupation-focused assessment tools will be provided. This webinar will also consider the role of skilled observation within natural contexts within the occupational therapy evaluation process. Goal Attainment Scaling will be described as a tool to measure meaningful changes in occupational performance.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Examine and apply the principles of authentic assessment across pediatric settings.
  2. Describe the role of occupation-focused authentic assessment tools and strategies in pediatric occupational therapy.
  3. Identify how Goal Attainment Scaling may be used to measure changes in occupational performance.
